NewsThe Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) issued a circular to automobile and motorcycle dealerships, as well as maintenance service providers, addressing vehicle noise emission rules. The Ministry claimed that "noise emission levels of cars and motorcycles must conform to the conditions and standards of the Qatari standard specifications issued by the Qatar General Organisation for Standards and Metrology."
This is based on the Consumer Protection legislation No. (8) of 2008 and its revisions, which outlined the duties of vehicle, motorbike, and maintenance service providers and detailed how to carry out these tasks in compliance with the provisions of the legislation and its implementing rules. According to the Ministry, Qatar follows the following standard specifications:
1. Gulf Standard / Cars - Noise Pollution (GSO1624/2002) in the mechanical product standards industry.
2. Gulf Standard / Motorcycles – Noise Pollution (GSO ECE 41-1:2007) in the mechanical product standards industry.
The Ministry also noted that the sound level in a car or motorbike should not exceed the limitations specified in the standard for the decibel (dB) unit, whether for the same petrol or diesel engine.
