News EventThe ninth Souq Waqif Local Dates Exhibition, opening on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, will have over 100 specialist farms participating in the 12-day event. The exhibition, which is being held in the eastern plaza of Souq Waqif and was organised by the latter in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality's Agricultural Affairs Department, is scheduled to run until August 3, 2024, with a large number of local farmers taking part.
The organising of this exhibition is in line with Qatar's interest in promoting and supporting domestic production of all national goods, including dates, as well as in the development of the agricultural industry, which includes date palms, and efforts to achieve food security.
Mohammed Abdullah Al-Salem, the director of Souq Waqif, said that the location is equipped with all the amenities required for the display. Every day from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., the public can visit the air-conditioned tent housing the exhibition; on Friday, however, it will stay open until 10 p.m. In light of Souq Waqif's notable status as a major heritage and tourism destination for citizens, residents, and visitors alike—as well as its convenient location in the heart of Doha—he confirmed that the market is eager to host this exhibition every year in order to support local farms.
In addition to the sale of date extracts, the current edition will also include a large number of local farmers participating with various locally manufactured date goods.
