News EventQatar Museums, on February 23, will launch Electric Idyll, the first survey exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) honouring acclaimed contemporary Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962), at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence in Doha.
Designed as a single, expansive installation that fills the Fire Station's Garage Gallery's more than 650 square metres, Electric Idyll showcases a varied selection of some of the artist's most well-known pieces in addition to brand-new participatory pieces made especially for this show.
The exhibition, which has been curated by Massimiliano Gioni, will open as part of the inaugural February event of Qatar Creates, a year-round national cultural movement that links locals and visitors from around the world with Qatar's creative industries while promoting and celebrating the diversity of cultural activities in the country.
The display will be open till June 1st.
Rist, who came to prominence in the 1990s as a member of a generation of artists investigating the relationships between nature, technology, and the spectacle of ubiquitous images in modern societies, has received recognition across the globe for her immersive projections and group experiences of dreamlike contemplation in her video installations. Rist designs Electric Idyll as a mesmerising diorama, a whole digital environment made up of fourteen pieces.
