27 Sep 2023
News EventThe closely linked American painters Dan Flavin (1933-1996) and Donald Judd (1928-1994) will have their greatest museum exhibition outside of the United States and the first comprehensive presentation internationally in over two decades when Qatar Museums opens this autumn. Additionally, the show will be the first significant display of Flavin and Judd's artwork in the MENA area.
Two of the artists are regarded as founding members of minimalism, a very important art movement that rejected conventional ideas of painting and sculpture in favour of emphasising the experience of actual space and materials.
The Dan Flavin | Donald Judd exhibition will open to the public at QM Gallery Al Riwaq on October 25, 2023. Doha is organised by Qatar Museums in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and is curated by LACMA's Jennifer King, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, and Michael Govan, LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director. The show is a part of Qatar Creates, a year-round national cultural initiative that celebrates the variety of cultural activities in Qatar, promotes them, and links locals and visitors from around the world to their creative industries.
