With over 300 artists from more than 65 countries getting together, the largest arts festival in the country Qatar International Arts Festival (QIAF), commences tomorrow.
The festival will be held at Katara Cultural Village and conclude on September 30. The art festival will unveil 12 international galleries exhibiting paintings and sculptures. As the country is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the theme for this year’s edition is “Global Art with Football and Sports.”
Among the events lined-up during the five-day festival are: Qatar cultural tour, painting and sculpture exhibition, live painting symposium, artistic fashion show, master classes, art panel discussion, art conference, cultural evening, networking dinner night, and awards night.
In a statement, Rashmi Agarwal, QIAF head and President of MAPS International, said the festival is “not just an art festival, it is an emotion.” “It welcomes and connects the artists worldwide at this fine festival. Art lies at the heart of Doha. The city has fast been becoming a place where plethora of art related activities take place every year. It has become a privilege for an artist to be in Qatar. Here, one can get amazing opportunities to exhibit their skills and add a few feathers of recognition in their plume.”
Agarwal stressed that the festival provides professional platform to the artists in Qatar and from all over the world, and it helps many international artists in gaining recognition and exhibiting their artworks in the country.
Twelve master classes will be conducted by different artists: Edward Bakst from USA will discuss the topic Imagine; Anca Sonia from France will talk about Perception on light and shadow in open space; Mayada Nazha (Italy) will shed light on the Influence of Arabic Architecture and Islamic Calligraphy in the World; Shiba Khan (from India) will discuss Rhythmic Painting.
An art panel discussion is also set with the theme “Future vision of the canvas — an artistic, cultural, sports, economist, healing and investor’s perspective.”
Ekaterina Borisova (Russia) will talk about the topic The Social and Educational Project “I’m Drawing the Horse”; Aliaksandra Bautruk (Switzerland), Demonstration of overglaze painting on porcelain, “Classic cornflower”. Dushan Ristovski ( from Macedonia) will discuss Mobile Phone Art: Concept, Digital Art, Mobile Phone Camera, Software, and Type of Arts; while Statira Alyea (Netherlands) will discuss introduction to printmaking.
The event is being organised by MAPS International, in collaboration with Cultural Village Foundation, Katara.
