Souq Waqif hosts second truffle exhibition and auction

Doha, Qatar: The second Souq Waqif Truffle Exhibition and Auction commenced yesterday morning at Souq Waqif’s Eastern Square.

On its opening day, the exhibition displayed both white and brown truffles from Algeria and Saudi Arabia, offering a rare and highly sought-after delicacy for local food lovers and traders.

The exhibition will remain open daily from 8am to 12pm, or until stocks of the prized truffles, locally known as Fagga, are sold out. The event, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Municipality, is set to continue for at least four months. Operating hours will be adjusted during Ramadan.

The Jamal Ibrahim Al Ishaq and Exhibition and Auction Manager at Souq Waqif, mentioned that 150 boxes of truffles arrived from Saudi Arabia and Algeria for the launch. He added that additional shipments from Iraq, Syria, and Iran are expected in the coming weeks.

The prices of truffles vary depending on type, size, and delivery volume. Currently, white truffles (Zubaidi) are priced between QR600 and QR1,200 per kilogram, while the brown Ikhlasi variety begins at QR150 per kilogram.
